Thirteen

It was official, my life had careened off the path I had carefully chosen and planned. Sure, I was still just as passionate about my work and my brand and how I wanted to affect the world, but my vision for the person I wanted beside me was starting to change.

I’d always thought that I would find a fellow social media star, maybe a fashion blogger or an actress, and we’d meet at some sort of convention and we’d fall madly in love overnight and our entire perfect relationship would play out in filtered glory online and everyone would constantly say how we were relationship goals. That had been my vision and the dream I had written about and thought of in quiet moments.

I didn’t want to be friends before dating someone. I just wanted to see her, and to fall, and for that to be it. I didn’t care if that was weird. That was just how I saw my life playing out. I’d planned it. I’d had it all PLANNED.

And then there was Seven, and now those plans were out of focus and didn’t excite me anymore. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t grasp that vision with clarity anymore.

The worst part was I didn’t care. I didn’t care that my entire plan had gone up in smoke. Usually when my plans got dashed, I freaked the fuck out. I didn’t deal super well with change that I wasn’t expecting, or change that I hadn’t planned in meticulous detail. Nothing about this thing with Seven was planned, and it was the first time I had felt my heart race in ages. I woke up with a tingly excitement in my veins every morning, wondering if I was going to see her, what she would be wearing, what she would say, if I would be able to keep myself from doing something like blurt out how much I liked her.

Seven had changed everything and, for the first time, I welcomed it. I opened my arms and said, “Come on in, I’ve been waiting for you.” Who was I?

I woke up on Monday feeling that giddy expectation that came with having something fresh and exciting in your life. I sang to myself as I blended a strawberry banana smoothie and took a few extra steps to make myself a foamy latte to go in my BOSS BITCH mug.

I floated to my car and practically skipped to class. My focus was intense, and everything was clicking into place. I was getting everything my teachers were talking and writing about and work was going great. Life was fucking fantastic. I felt like I could bench press a car and look fabulous while doing it at the same time.

I took more than a few selfies, marveling at my absolutely glowing smile and the light in my eyes. I didn’t think other people could see it, but I could. I had my passion back. Seven had stoked my fire, in more ways than one.
